Vote for Lauren, a Finalist in Art Works: A Poster Contest to Support American Jobs
Miami senior graphic designer Lauren Romano has been chosen as one of 12 finalists in Art Works: A Poster Contest to Support American Jobs. Please vote for Lauren, Worthington, OH here: artworks.barackobama.com/
“Obama for America invited artists from across the country to volunteer their creativity to support President Obama’s jobs plan.” Three Hand Media students chose to participate in the contest, along with fulfilling their Letterpress Poster assignment for class. Each of the student’s posters portrayed a different message, strong visual concepts and featured the line “Hand printed in America.”
Lauren’s poster features the headline “Rebuilding America 2012” and a textural block background created by printing the backs of the wood type, with a subtle gradation of blue inks (called a split-fountain). Her poster demonstrates the character of hand printing with historic type.
The three winners of the contest receive framed prints of their posters signed by President Obama.
Note: The contest has been a bit controversial in the design community. Richard Grefé, AIGA executive director, sent a letter to to campaign manager Jim Messina explaining his position: aiga.org/aiga-urges-the-obama-2012-campaign-to-reconsider-its-jobs-poster-contest/
